introduccion

When we see people from other countries walking down the street or we are introduced to someone who comes from another country, it is difficult to imagine what this means. In this sequence, we are going to try to approach this experience.

To do this, we will put ourselves in the shoes of the person who changes countries, travelling on a virtual migratory journey.

WHERE ARE WE MOVING TO?

Before moving we have to think about which country we are going to move to. Get together in groups of 5 people and choose your destination. These are the countries you can choose from:

  1. Argentina
  2. U.S.
  3. China
  4. United Kingdom
  5. Namibia

People often move to another country without knowing anything about it. But we will give you the opportunity to find out some details. In the Resources section you can find links to help you locate useful information about each place. Gather the necessary information thinking that you are soon going to live in that country. After collecting the information, you should have to be clear about the following:

  1. Geographical location.
  2. Language.
  3. Currency.
  4. Current Government.
  5. Demography.
  6. Current immigration data.

tiempo   Duration: 2 hours

WE'RE GOING!

It is time to leave. Each group will have €2,000 for the journey and to settle in. Take into account that each country has its own currency and language, and the administrative procedures are not the same.

In each group, you will have to design the travel plan and organise everything you need to live in the country of destination. You can follow the links in the Resources section to find out how to do the following:

  • Transport.
  • Legal paperwork, necessary documents.
  • Finding your livelihood: includes finding accommodation, work and practical issues such as what to do in case of illness (for this section there are no links available pointing to that information and you will have to find it on the Internet).

Put all the information in a presentation using any of the applications that you can find in the Resources section.

tiempo   Duration: 4 hours

HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE?

Each group has made its journey and gone through various difficulties. Gather your group's impressions in a group document setting out what those difficulties were.

Share the experience with the group by showing your presentation and explaining the difficulties that you have noted down. Once you have shown all your presentations, carry out a small group discussion.

Questions for the group discussion:

  • Has any group noted down any content on adapting to local life?
  • How do you think you would be received in the new country?
  • Do you think that you will experience cultural difficulties? And racial?
  • How would you feel if after such a hard journey and hard work people reject you?

tiempo   Duration: 2 hours
